The Therapy Of Probiotics For IBS

The Irritable bowel syndrome is a gastrointestinal disorder like bloating and indigestion. This requires treatment as it can cause great discomforts to a person. You may have heard about the use of probiotics for the treatment of IBS but did not quite understand what it entails. Probiotics for IBS are a great medical therapy for treating this ailment by utilizing the little living microorganisms.

Probiotics are defined as living microorganisms which in adequate numbers can offer great health benefits. They are like bacteria or yeast which is available in supplements and some foods. Our bodies carry almost more than 500 different species of bacteria whose functions are to keep our intestines and immune system healthy.

The use of antibiotics for any purpose results in an imbalance of the bacteria present in a gastrointestinal tract. This imbalance is dangerous as it results in damage of the intestinal lining. The result can be wounds which may cause you to end up with ulcers. The use of organisms like those present in the probiotics helps to restore this imbalance and an intestinal lining is made healthy again.

Aside from treating the Irritable Bowel Syndrome, these microorganisms have also been used to treat other gastrointestinal disorders. These include; acid reflux, indigestion, diarrhea, colitis, ulcerative colitis and bloating. There are studies that have been carried out to indicate the responsiveness of IBS symptoms towards various different probiotics.

The Bidifidobacterium infantis is one of these bacteria which have been tested in the high quality tests. It has shown great beneficial effects towards the control of IBS. It has been shown to greatly influence and improve the symptoms of IBS that are gases and bloating. There are more studies which have been conducted although many of this are small and of low quality.

The probiotics can regulate bowel function including sensation, motility and immune function. They can be purchased in many different forms which include pills, liquid or powder. They can also be found in single form or in combination. Some yeast has also been seen as to have some probiotic effects. Yeast, which is dead bacteria, is thus being studied to find out exactly what effect this bacteria have in the treatment of IBS.

When you are planning on taking this treatment for the irritable bowel disease, there are some things you have to follow in order to achieve their maximum effects. One is that they should be kept refrigerated to prevent them from being ineffective. You should also ensure that the treatment contains some multiple bacterial strains and know well what each of them does to be able to select the one that you need more. Take the treatment immediately after finishing any antibiotics.

The drugs should be used in adequate dosages. You should not be afraid of an overdose in this case. The probiotics should be taken in adequate amount for maximum effects. You cannot overdose on this. They should however not be taken with food. They can either be used 30 minutes prior to eating or after it.
